So, I read this book, Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch and I loved it! It's the first book of a trilogy and talks about the adventures of Peter Grant, a young officer in the Metropolitan Police; who, following an unexpected encounter with a ghost, is recruited into the small branch of the Met that deals with magic and the supernatural.
Peter Grant, having become the first English apprentice wizard in fifty years, must immediately deal with two different but ultimately inter-related cases. In one he must find what is possessing ordinary people and turning them into vicious killers, and in the second he must broker a peace between the two warring gods of the River Thames.
And I wanted to draw the main protagonists. From Left to right:
Up left: Beverley Brook, "daughter" of Mama Thames and goddess of a small river in South London.
Bottom left: Police Constable Lesley May, an officer in the Metropolitan Police who, having completed her mandatory probationary period, is expected to go far.
Middle: Police Constable Peter Grant, the protagonist and an officer in the Metropolitan Police who, having completed his mandatory probationary period, is expected to do paperwork.
Up right: (I fell in love with him, and I regret nothing.) Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, head of the Folly and the last officially sanctioned English Wizard.
Bottom right: Molly; The Folly's domestic helper, of unknown species. (I don't really know why, but I love her so much. She doesn't really have all this space in the book but I like her!).
I want to read the other two books but here in Italy they haven't yet been published ._.
This is awesome = I knew who all your characters were straight away! I'm just half way through book 1 (but I already have books 2 & 3 waiting) and absolutely love it - it could make an awesome TV series. I'll keep my fingers crossed that Moon Over Soho and Whispers Underground come out in Italian for you soon! (although your English is awesome = you could always read them in English if the waiting becomes too much!)
I loved the books. looking forward to part three. Your picture is great, though I imagine Nightingale looking diffrent...somehow... but that's fine, since it's your picture You'll like the second book. Though you'll definitely miss Brook. But Ash will make up for it.^^ And you'll need to work over Leslie's face again....after the incidents at the end of the first book Enjoy!
I knooooow I'll miss Brook and Leslie's face (xD), and I want those books so bad ç_ç, they haven't been translated in Italian yet. I've imagined Nightingale differently too but, as I said in another comment, he didn't come out like I wanted!
Well, I am from Germany, but I read the books in English, which is just fine for me. Maybe you want to try? Then you could buy them at Amazon? I just got myself the third part yesterday :-P Peter will visit Brook then....so maybe she'll appear more often. And Leslie stays in contact with him...tells one girl who asks her, why she's wearing a mask, that her face fell off...just like that. i laughed my head off :-D
I know what you mean...I started it in German too, but couldn't wait for the translation...so here I go. Sadly the visit with Brooke in the third book was canceled -.- But I am pretty sure she will reappear somehow later
You'll like the second book. Though you'll definitely miss Brook. But Ash will make up for it.^^ And you'll need to work over Leslie's face again....after the incidents at the end of the first book
My favorite scene with Molly so far is when she's teasing Toby in the kitchen. I'm glad my boyfriend brought this back from England with him.
